What is Statement of Environmental Effects?
A Statement of Environmental Effects or SEE is a document detailing the potential environmental impact of a proposed development. The impact includes natural and built environments. A Statement of Environmental Effects must always be submitted with a Development Application as specified by the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation 2000.
What does a Statement of Environmental Effects include?
In many cases, low impact development requires a simple SEE format. The larger the potential impacts are for a particular type of development application, the more rigorous the environmental assessment needs to be. In general an SEE outlines:
- The likely Environmental impacts of the development;
- How the environmental impacts of the development have been identified; and
- The steps that will be taken to protect the environment or to lessen the expected harm to the environment.
